Eddie Murphy to Return to the Screen For Beverly Hills Cop 4

Eddie Murphy is reportedly set to return to the silver screen as wise-cracking cop Axel Foley - almost 20 years after the last Beverly Hills Cop movie.

he Paramount Pictures film is "moving fast" and Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec - the screenwriting duo behind Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - have been hired to write the script, according to showbiz news website Deadline.

The film company's interest in the franchise is said to have been sparked by the pilot episode for a spin-off TV series, starring Brandon T Jackson as Foley’s son Aaron.

Although the TV project was dropped, Murphy's "scene-stealing turn had people talking" and showed the tough-talking Detroit detective was "still pretty potent", Deadline said.

The first Beverly Hills Cop movie came out in 1984, directed by Martin Brest.
The second was made by Tony Scott in 1987, and the last one was directed by John Landis in 1994, when Murphy was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

The series was a huge success, grossing a total of nearly £500m.
The first movie held the box office record for R-rated comedies until it was beaten by The Hangover in 2009.
