A seventy-two year-old man was on Thursday arrested by police officers for allegedly defiling a two-year-old toddler in Marani, Kisii County, Kenya.
Henry Ondieki
was seized moments after he allegedly committed the act while attempting to
flee from the scene of crime with an angry mob hot on his heels.
A police
report seen by Mediamax Digital revealed that the grandmother of the minor had
left her minor playing with other children when she headed to the market.
“When she
returned she found the child lying on the ground crying and bleeding which led
to the arrest of the suspect who was trying to flee from the scene,” the report
read in part.
However, the
grandmother raised the alarm and members of the public responded and almost
lynched the suspect.
It took the
intervention of a village elder to save the suspect from the claws of the angry
mob that had caught up with him.
The suspect
was marched to the nearby police station but had to be taken to the Kegogi
Level III Hospital for treatment of serious injuries inflicted on him by the
mob.
The toddler
was also admitted to the same hospital.
