According to Vanguard, President
Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concerns over the continued violence in most
parts of the North.
The President, who expressed
voiced his worries while delivering the opening remark at the ongoing meeting
of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), debunked
speculations that all the killings are carried out by members of the outlawed
Boko Haram sect.
He cited the recent massacre in
Zamfara State as example saying security reports at his disposal indicated that
the violence was purely ethnic cleansing and wondered why ethnic groups that
had co-existed in peace for several decades resorted to killing themselves.
Information Nigeria reports that
gunmen stormed four villages in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State in
the early hours of Tuesday and killed scores of including a village head.
Mr Jonathan asked the governors
present at the meeting to take up the security challenges and reverse the ugly
trend.
The President also expressed
optimism that despite the challenges posed by corruption, Nigeria would be a
better place to live in, in the next five years.
