Man, 43, Allegedly Abducts & kills Neighbour's Five-Year-Old

Saturday Dewakie looks harmless and friendly. But the 43-year-old man allegedly kidnapped and killed his "good neighbour's son. "
According to the Federal Capital (FCT) Command of the State Security Service (SSS), Dewakie, who is in its custody, allegedly kidnapped and killed a five-year-old boy, Sadiq Abubakar Adamu, son of his neighbour, whom he described as "peace-loving and friendly." Dewakie was paraded yesterday in Abuja with the boy's bones, a locally-made pistol and two bullets.

It was revealed that about six months ago, in April specifically, the father of 10, sneaked into the house of his neighbour through the ceiling, where they live at ASO 'c' Gbagalape area, near Nyanya in Abuja and kidnapped the son for a ransom of N5 million, tied his hands and kept him in an uncompleted building, even though the boy was unwell.

"When Abubakar Adamu, the boy's father woke up the next morning and did not see his son, there was pandemonium in the compound, but he was temporarily relieved when his 'good' neighbour, Dewakie, offered to help look for the child. Tension was further assuaged when a ransom was placed on the boy, meaning he was alive and well after all." "Dewakie, who all along was pretending to be a go-between of the supposed kidnappers and his "very good neighbour, was always ready to render assistance to him and his family."

Dewakie said he kidnapped Sadiq because he needed to make money to pay the debts he owed people. Sadiq's father begged me and gave me N100, 000 to take to the kidnappers." When I got to the house where I kept the boy, he was not there, I discovered he had jumped out from an open window and ran away. There was open sewage pit and it was at night and his hands were already tied. He didn't see the pit and ran into it. I saw him unconscious. I looked for a ladder so that I could save his life, I didn't find one early enough.

When I eventually did, I carried him in my arms and he had already died." "I never intended to kill him. If somebody does that to my own child, I would never forgive that person. But I want the father to forgive me. It was a mistake that he died. Sadiq's father is a peaceful man," the suspect said. According to the Assistant Director Operations, Ibrahim Halilu: "On April 19, Dewakie, a neighbour to Adamu Isa, the victim's father, surreptitiously entered Isa's house through the ceiling and kidnapped the victim, while he was asleep.

Thereafter, Dewakie demanded N5million ransom from the father for the release of the kidnapped boy." Halilu said investigation revealed that Dewakie killed the child in an uncompleted building and dumped the boy in a sewage pit when the ransom was not paid. "The suspect has taken operatives of this service to the scene of the crime where the remains of the kidnapped boy were recovered," he said. Although the suspect would be prosecuted when investigations are concluded, he was found with a locally-made pistol, which he said was given to him when he was the Vice Chairman of Azagbane community in Ekeremor Local Council of Bayelsa State.

According to Dewakie, he refused to surrender the gun to the vigilance group as he was expected to in 2009 because "he is a community leader and as a community leader, you need to protect your people". According to him, he came to Abuja in 2010 but had never kidnapped or killed anybody before, adding that this was his first time He said he started with the son of his good neighbour and was caught when "greed" led him to demand for additional N300, 000 after the boy had died.
