Lagos markets shut as Akiolu instals Tinubu-Ojo as Iyaloja

Accroding to Vanguard, all major markets in Lagos Metropolis were yesterday shut to allow traders attend the coronation ceremony of Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of the former Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju

Bola Tinubu, as the new Iyaloja- General of Nigeria.The coronation ceremony was part of the activities to commemorate the 70th birthday of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu at the Iga-iduganran, Lagos Island local government.It will be recalled that the last holder of the Iyaloja-General title, late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the mother of Tinubu died on Saturday June 15, this year, at the age of 96.

When Vanguard visited some of the major markets in the state, shops and stalls were locked for the coronation ceremony.
Some of the affected markets included Rauf Aregbesola Market, Iyana-Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government, Ketu, Mile 12 market and others.
The usual influx of customers at the markets was completely absent, as only a couple of traders were seen standing in front of their locked shops. While some customers who had visited some of these markets left with their hopes shattered when they were informed of the closure.
Speaking with Vanguard at the Mile 12 market, Mrs. Ada Nwachukwu said; “I am here to transact my business that is to buy some tomatoes but with this closure. I have no option than to leave. I pray that the market will be opened tomorrow.”
Meantime during the installation Oba Akiolu advised the new Iyaloja to be diligent and committed to the service of humanity.
He said the position was important to the development of market activities in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu said in a separate interview that the new Iyaloja was capable of coordinating market activities in Lagos State.
She said Tinubu-Ojo was under the tutelage of the late Iyaloja General, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.
