Nails That Glows When You Hold A Phone

Fake fingernails fitted with LEDs and a tiny antenna - causing them to light up when close to a smartphone - have been shown off by a Japanese toy maker.
The stick-on nails use Near Field Connection (NFC) to detect signals from an NFC-enabled mobile device.

The wearer can use a companion mobile app to choose which situations their nails will automatically light up, such as when the phone rings or when the battery is low.

The device operates without batteries or any other power source, and the technology was demonstrated at Takara Tomy’s exhibition in Tokyo.

The nails go on sale in Japan on April 24 and will cost 1,200 yen (£7) per set.

Each set contains 16 stick-on nails, of which one is NFC and LED-enabled.

While the nails have only cosmetic use, NFC is a useful technology.

NFC-enabled phones can be used to make transactions and share data with nearby devices.
