Fayemi, who stated this when he hosted a team of newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, also declared that the statement credited to Vice President Namadi Sambo that the governorship election in Ekiti would be a war was worrisome, adding that the statement was equally unbelievable.
He stated that the Vice President needed to withdraw the statement so as not to negatively affect the 2015 general election.
The governor, however ,stated that the forthcoming election would amount to a referendum of the people on governance in the state ,adding that even the opposition agreed his administration had done well.

The governor said: “The Vice President has every right to push for his party in any election. That is his legitimate right but to have said what the media reported him to have purportedly said was quite unfortunate because we are not at war in Ekiti.
“We have been here three and a half years of peace - one of the most peaceful states in this country today. So, for somebody who occupies one of the highest offices in the land as our Vice President, to reduce the importance of his office and promote insecurity - either directly or by subterfuge, and in this case ,it is pretty much directly and it wasn’t used figuratively, he used it in a matter of fact that he was going to a war front.
He insisted that he would take on the Vice President to seek clarifications on the statement.
“I still would like to take the Vice President on himself. I hope he would deny saying that and it would be some form of reassurance. I think it is the underlying text that should worry us.”
He asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to reassure the people ahead of the election in view of the statement credited to Sambo.
He further said: “I think INEC together with inter agency committee and security that would be involved in the election really need to give people a lot of reassurance following the Vice President’s statement. I think it is very unfortunate. I think it is unbecoming of his office.
“I think the Vice President really ought to withdraw the statement and reassure Nigerians that the agenda for Ekiti election is not going to be determined in Aso Rock but by Ekiti people because it is a referendum on the performance of the current government in Ekiti; it is not a national election.
“It should not be reduced to a national election. So, that would be my reaction to the unfortunate remark of the Vice President.”
Speaking further, the governor noted that there was a lot of what he termed as sabre-rattling about coming Ekiti governorship poll, pointing out that a lot of Nigerians were disappointed with the role played by the Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obaniko, in the recent re run election in Ondo State.

“There has been a lot of sabre-rattling about this election. All of us also saw what happened at Ilaje - Ese Odo and the role played by a minister of government who does not even come from the state, has no responsibility in the state. The way he was said to have purportedly - not even purportedly because the Resident Electoral Commissioner came out openly and said ‘let them challenge what I’m telling you in your report, this was what this person did.’
“In any decent government, Mr Musiliu Obanikoro, would have been asked to leave by now because if you do anything that flies flagrantly in the eyes of the law, the INEC law is very clear. That appears to many people as a precursor of their plan for Ekiti and Osun elections.

According to a press statement issued by the Fayose’s spokesman, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the former governor ,who governed the state between 2003 and 2006 ,said he valued Ekiti teachers much, stressing, “ these same teachers humiliated by the APC government, I had used to transform the education and return Ekiti to the first position in WAEC and NECO exams in South West, as opposed to the 36th position I met the state in 2003 when I took over from Niyi Adebayo.”
Meanwhile, a former member of National Assembly representing Ekiti North, Senator Ayo Arise, has said that he has no reason for him to regret the support he is currently giving the PDP governorship candidate in the June 21 election in the state.
Arise, who stated this while addressing newsmen in his Oye-Ekiti community, said he was only obeying the wishes of generality of the members of his party and other supporters.
According to Arise, he agreed to work for the success of Ayo Fayose and the PDP in the election “after due consultation with the national leadership of our party.”
The PDP leader also noted that he was “more impressed by the zeal for hard work and resilienceon the part of the PDP candidate.”
The PDP candidate said that in order to raise the status of teachers, he created office of tutor-general, elevated teachers’ day to carnival and rewarded excellence.
Fayose continuied, “ I will do more to make teachers happy and comfortable. Cases of victimisation will be looked into. “But I am appealing to the teachers to go and collect their voter card. The card is your only weapon you can use to return me as your governor.
“ I am also appealing to all eligible voters in the state not to surrender their cards to anybody.”

Earlier, the leader of the coalition, Mr Wale Ayeni, had said that the PDP youths in the state have resolved to support Fayose to win the election because he was the most experienced, qualify and competent of all the aspirants that had jostled for the ticket.
Ayeni said what the youths were looking was a governor and not a candidate and God answered their prayers with emergence of Fayose.
He said that the youths which were drawn from all the polling units in the state have been mandated to deliver their wards to the PDP.

He stated that What will be done is to introduce a monitoring scheme through which prudent spending and accountability will be ascertained. “We are glad to assure our supporters that we will never give in to any intimidation from any quarters.”
Adeniji, also pledged that if voted in as a governor, he will ensure that the state’s debt profile will not be increased but reduced. “In any given development-oriented society, debt profiles are at very low level, but to day, Ekiti State is highly indebted, this is very ridiculous, what we see are merely monumental development.
