Man Shot: Mistaken For Antelope

A hunter from Ogun State has been arraigned before Abeokuta magistrate’s court on charge of killing a man after mistaking him for an antelope.

According to source, the tragedy occurred on March 28 at Orile-Ilugun, Abeokuta, as the suspect, Oguntola Joel, shot Obasi John dead during hunting.

The 40-year-old man said that he didn't do that intentionally, but thought that it was an antelope and shot in the direction of the animal. After hearing the human's groan, he realized what a fatal mistake he had made.

Joel himself reported the case to the police and took the victim to the hospital. However John passed the next day.

The case hearing is to be held on July 11, 2014.
