Tottenham
Hotspur forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has been hospitalized
with malaria.
It was
confirmed by club officials that the 30-year-old footballer was admitted to
hospital after he had reported to Tottenham medical personnel he was not
feeling well.
Thus Adebayor will
miss the club’s pre-season tour of North America, goal.com reports with
reference to Tottenham’s statement, which read in part:
"A
swift diagnosis meant the disease was detected at an early stage and he is
responding well to treatment. The striker is expected to be released from hospital
[on Monday] and will then require a minimum of seven days before returning to
training. The player has been advised not to travel on medical grounds, which
means he will be forced to miss our pre-season tour of North America."
Tottenham is to play
3 friendly matches against Major League Soccer (MLS) sides within 7 days.
It would be recalled
that by the end of 2013/14 English Premiere League (EPL) season Adebayor became
the club’s top goal scorer with the total of 14 goals scored from 25
appearances. In their final EPL game against Aston Villa, which ended in
Tottenham’s 3-0 win, Adebayor made a successful shot from the spot in the 38th
minute of the match.
