West Palm Beach Project Shared "scarily negative" Insurgent Group

A residential project has a new identity, the South Florida developer had to change the name of the building because it shared the name of the Islamist extremist group that has seized control of vast areas of Syria and Iraq.
Formerly known as Isis Downtown, the West Palm Beach site is now being marketed as 3 Thirty Three Downtown.

Isis, also the name of an ancient Egyptian goddess, has became more widely known in recent months as the acronym for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The group, which now calls itself Islamic State but is also referred to as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, last week claimed responsibility for the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

"It's scarily negative," Tim Harris, a former president of the Realtor Association of the Palm Beaches, told the Palm Beach Post.

The 16-storey, 213-unit waterfront condominium is the city's first major residential development since the property downturn.

It is not the first branding bungle involving the name Isis.

Only last week, British sretailer Ann Summers apologised for any misunderstanding after it rolled out an "Isis" lingerie line.
