Former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), has dismissed rumours that he was hospitalised in a Germany for an undisclosed ailment, saying his travelling to the European country was for a routine medical checkup.

This is contrary to reports published at the weekend that Babangida was hospitalised in a hospital in Germany after he was rushed there 10 days ago from his country home in Minna, the Niger State capital.

It was reported that the once upon a time military president was moved from his hilltop mansion in Minna out of the country in a desperate need of adequate health care.
According to the report, President Goodluck Jonathan was said to be scheduled to visit the ailing general in Germany on Sunday.

Babangida was speculated to be down with an ailment relating to a chronic back pains which he had allegedly went to Germany sometime for treatment.
A source also quoted a friend of the former dictator saying Babangida is “getting better”.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that members of the National Assembly blamed the regime of General Babangida who ruled between 1985-1993 for the poor performance of the Nigerian Armed Forces in their fight against the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.

General Babangida, born 17 August, 1941, is a retired Nigerian Army officer who was the military ruler of Nigeria from 27 August 1985, when he overthrew Major General Muhammadu Buhari in a coup, until his departure from office on 27 August 1993.
