Location Of The Missing Fighting Jet Might Be Known

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, said they might know the location of the jet, which disappeared after last Friday operation against Boko Haram in Konduga, Borno State.
Nigeria Air Force’s Alpha Jet (NAF 466), which was used for the operation against the dreaded sect, reportedly went missing somewhere around Adamawa State. Since the 12th of September the air-force has been unable to establish contact with the jet staff.
According to Punch, on Monday, September 15, Amosu claimed while speaking with State House correspondents in Abuja:

“We have an idea of where missing jet could be.”

It would be recalled that some residents of Gombi LGA, Adamawa, said yesterday that they saw the low-flying aircraft close to Gabun primary school before it might have crashed. This area is located close to the “battle fields” of Michika and Madagali LGA, where the military were actively engaged against insurgent forces last week.

Amosu however pointed out that despite the challenging character of the operation, they hope to get the credible information about the jet soon.

“I am hopeful that before the end of the day or week we should be able to provide credible information as to the location of the aircraft and then the pilots.”
The official also expressed hope that the staffs of the missing jet are still alive. Amosu denied allegations about the possible sabotage saying:

“Sabotage? No, because it is a distance of just from Maiduguri to Yola. We are in full control of the air space. But don’t forget that when you lose radio signal, it becomes very challenging. There are so many possibilities but we are working on it.”

Amosu revealed that based on the gathered information authorities had got “an idea” of the possible whereabouts of the aircraft.

Meanwhile, in the counter-terrorism operation in Konduga; Nigerian military reportedly killed scores of insurgents. Additionally, numerous weapons and vehicles were recovered from the fighting sect members.
