Tear Gas Shot At High Court

The Rivers state High Court took a turn to the worse when office men from the police unleashed tear gas at a crowd protesting the forceful opening of the State High Court.
Officials including journalists, motorists and citizens were affected by the actions of the angry policemen.

The security operatives had come to take care of the angry youths around the court premises but after the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan Bature arrived things went worse.
Immediately teargas canister were shot into the direction of the Port Harcourt Local Government Secretariat where the youths took refuge.

The youths in retaliation started slinging empty bottles at the policemen even though the state High Court remained blocked at both ends by security operatives.

The plan to open the court today with Daisy Okocha to resume duties as the Chief Judge had led to the crisis.

The position had been highly controversial especially between the NJC and the Rivers State Government due to who should be the Chief Judge of the state. The issue is still in court.
