University To Be Named After Mimiko

A university in Ondo-state, the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, is to reverse the name of its new Senate Building after Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Mimiko’s name is boldly inscribed in front of the five-floor edifice, as approved by the school authorities.

However, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Femi Mimiko, told journalists on Tuesday that the governor had humbly turned down the honour.

According to him, Governor Mimiko will not want to be vested with such an honour while he remains the visitor to the institution and still serving as the governor of the state.

“He believes that the institution could decide to name the building after him after he has left office,” Prof. Mimiko said.

The vice chancellor, who was addressing the media on the activities of the university’s week-long 5th Convocation Ceremony, praised the humility and modesty of Governor Mimiko. He said he had been a strong support to the institution in its quest to provide the state-of-the-art infrastructure for the university.
He also said the convocation ceremony would also feature a lecture, titled, “The Break-up of Nigeria: Myths, Realities and Implications.” It would be delivered by former President of the Senate, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, on November 5

Mimiko also noted that 412 graduates would be receiving postgraduate degrees, 10, of whom were in the PhD category.
