Due to the petition by the
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) dated December 23rd
2014; the Office of the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Arbitrary or
Summary Executions, Christof Heyns, considers “appropriate action” to halt the
execution of the 54 Nigerian soldiers sentenced to death over mutiny.
SERAP executive director
Adetokunbo Mumuni praised the UN attempts expressing hope that “Mr. Heyns will
work assiduously to ensure that justice is done in this matter and we wish him
well as he strives to do that.”
According to report the
measures which might be involved in solving the problem include communication
with President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
