Niels H, suspected of killing as many as 178, tells court psychiatrist he wanted to show off his resuscitation skills.
The man, identified only as
Niels H, deliberately gave patients heart medicine in quantities greater than
were recommended by doctors to show his reanimation skills. The terrifying
deaths of at least 30 persons came to light after Niels was accused of three
murders and two attempted murders in September.
During a psychiatric
assessment he suddenly had confessed to up to 30 killings. Explaining his
actions, he said that he was trying to find gratitude and admiration by saving
people from the brink of death.
Luckily, sixty other
patients survived the attacks, which happened between 2003 and 2005. Niels has
already serving a 7,5 years prison sentence since 2008 for attempted murder,
his sentence will be reviewed as investigation continues.
This is not the first time
when nurses make use of their patients’ vulnerability, earlier this year an
Italian nurse was arrested on suspicion of killing 38 terminal patients as she
had found them or their families annoying.
