Wike, at St.
Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while dedicating his
campaign to God, said that he had never been a cultist and was never invited as
a student in the university to join any cult group.
The
governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Mr
Nyesom Wike, has called on the church to pray against any cultist emerging
governor of the state this year.
Describing
himself as a good Christian, Wike said that if elected, he will respect elders
and the traditional institutions in the state.
He said: “We
are not hypocrites. Some of us are from very good Christian backgrounds. We
don’t need to bring television to people and start rolling on the ground for
people to know that we are good Christians. All of you know that my father is a
pastor. I am sitting here today saying that I am a child of God.
“Mr. Vicar,
let me say this and I want everybody to hear me say it. I attended the
University of Port Harcourt, where I read Political Science. I went to the
University of Science and Technology, where I read Law and later, the Nigerian
Law School. From the University of Port Harcourt to the University of Science
and Technology, I never belonged to any secret cult in the universities.
“I want to
challenge anybody who will even say that I was once invited, but I refused. I
have never been invited and this is because they knew I would not come. I want
you to pray that any person that is a member of a secret cult and has not come
to the church to confess and renounce secret cult, should not be governor of this
state.
“Also, as I
speak here, if I am a member of a secret society and now I am saying that I am
no longer in a secret cult, then pray also that I should not become the
governor of this state.”
