According to the Nigeria
Bulletin, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has reportedly collapsed
and has been subsequently flown to a UK hospital for treatment.
The governor, who is also
the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Forum was said
to have collapsed on Sunday, March 22, during an event in the state.
A source close to the
governor who confided in Urhobo Today also confirmed Akpabio’s collapse,
stating that he was indeed rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the UK.
The PDP and the Akwa Ibom
State government are yet to issue a statement about this development.
The news of Akpabio’s
collapse comes as Victor Attah, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom and
one of the founding members of the PDP, openly launched a public attack on his
successor, Governor Godswill Akpabio during a campaign for the All Progressives
Congress.
Premium Times reports that
for the first time since the ex-governor left office in 2007, he Saturday,
publicly attacked Mr. Akpabio, describing the latter’s senatorial aspiration as
hypocritical.
It is yet unclear what
would have led to the governors collapse but it might not be unconnected with
the defection of former Governor Ubong Victor Attah from the ruling PDP to the
opposition All Progressives Congress.
