Teenage schoolboy has been
charged with attempted murder over the stabbing of a teacher at a Bradford
secondary school, the fourteen year old’s name at moment was withheld because
he is under age.
The footage recorded on a
mobile phone shows the youth put his arms behind his back as officers wearing
body armour and with handguns swarm around him.
As the teen is read his
rights after the stabbing of science teacher Vincent Uzomah one of the youth's
friends says: "What are you doing to my boy?"
The clip, recorded in
Bradford city centre earlier today, ends with the teenager being taken away by
officers.
It came after Mr Uzomah,
who taught at Dixons Kings Academy, was taken to hospital after receiving a
stab wound to his body.
The incident happened at a
classroom in the free school in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Mr Uzomah's condition is
currently described as stable.
Police were earlier hunting
for a teenager who was described as Asian with short dark hair, and was last
seen wearing his blue school blazer.
But officers confirmed this
afternoon that a boy had been arrested in Bradford city centre on suspicion of
attempted murder.
Detective Superintendent
Simon Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police, described the incident as
"horrendous" and said his thoughts were with the injured man.
He added that the attack
took place during a science class and that the teacher's injuries were not
"life-threatening".
Speaking this afternoon, DS
Atkinson said: "His family are with him at his bedside.
"There were a number
of pupils who witnessed the incident which took place in a class room.
"They are liaising
with our specially trained officers who are currently supporting them at this
difficult time.
"This is believed to
be an isolated incident and the police are continuing enquiries to establish
the facts."
A statement from the school
said: "A member of staff was assaulted with a knife by a 14 year old
student who then ran off the site.
"The member of staff
is in hospital and his condition is described as stable, there is no internal
bleeding. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
"All students are safe
and calm and have responded with tremendous maturity during a very difficult
time."
