American rapper Kanye West is
to be honoured with its highest accolade this Sunday, August 30 by Vanguard
Award.
Before now, winners of the
award are Madonna (1986), Micheal Jackson (1988), Janet Jackson (1990), as well
as U2, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce for 2001, 2011, 2013 and
2014 respectively.
The Video Vanguard Award is
the MTV’s lifetime achievement award.
Though West is to be
presented with the honour he hasn’t any nominations for this year’s MTVs, an
event that has seen him pocket two previous awards.
Whilst the world looks
forward to Sunday’s show, West’s 2009 drama after Taylor Swift was announced
winner for Best Female Video will always be fresh on many minds.
Swift edged out Beyonce
Knowles in 2009’s MTV Awards when her single ‘You Belong With Me’ won for Best
Female Video ahead of Knowles’ ‘Put A Ring On It’ and the rapper went on stage
and threw a major tantrum.
And though details are
still sketchy as to whether West will have a performance on the night or not,
previous years have seen him treat the audience to interesting performances of
his hit records from his 2004 appearance to his performance of ‘Blood On The
Leaves’ in 2013.
What for?
