Twenty-five-year-old Benjamin
Clementine was given an accolade for his debut album, which showcases his
singing and piano skills.
Benjamin was announced as
the winner of the Mercury Prize, the UK's most prestigious music award.
The first-time nominee beat
competition from the likes of Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice and Supergrass
star Gaz Coombes.
Benjamin is a British-French
poet, pianist, composer, musician and a recording artist from London, England.
He grew up in North London
before moving to France for a period of time. During his spell whilst singing
in Paris he broke free from the traditional song structure, inventing his own
dramatic and innovative musical territory and consequently became a cult figure
in the music and art scene.
