In the notice of appeal,
Umana and the APC faulted the tribunal judgment on grounds of debacle of
justice, urging the Appeal court to remove Governor Emmanuel Udom from office.
Despite the Election
Petitions Tribunal ordering a re-run governorship election in 18 out of the 31
local government areas in Akwa Ibom, the All Progressive Congress (APC) have
decided to head to the Appeal court to seek redress.
Umana Okon Umana, the APC
governorship candidate in the April 11 2015 election has demanded that the
April 11 election should be totally annulled.
The APC governorship
candidate has also filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja challenging
the judgement of the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on the poll.
The APC also alleged that
the April 11 election didn’t comply with the Election Act 2010 and voter
guidelines of INEC, at such, a fresh governorship election has to be conducted
throughout the state.
Governor Udom Emmanuel had
been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the
winner in the April 11 governorship election.
However, it was reported
that the election was allegedly marred with violence, harassment of voters,
hijacking of election materials among many others which led international and
local observers to pass an unanimous verdict that it was a sham and recommend a
complete cancellation of the exercise.
According to the APC, there
was no election in the state and its candidate, Umana Okon Umana, had to
challenge the victory at the tribunal seeking a cancellation of the purported
election.
