Media mogul Oprah Winfrey made a fortune from sending out one tweet.
According to
Market Watch, Winfrey earned a whopping $12 million for merely writing about
how she was able to lose weight and still eat bread.
Her tweet, posted
yesterday included a 30-second video clip, was to promote her journey with
Weight Watchers.
An hour after
she sent her story into the Twitter verse, Weight Watchers shares climbed
slightly over $2 a share, and since Winfrey owns roughly 6 million shares, the
surge in share prices made her $12
million just like that.
Talkshow host’s video
claiming she lost 26 pounds by using the weight-loss programme adds about
$12.5m to the value of her stake in the company.
Winfrey, who has a deal
with the company that includes making personal endorsements, singlehandedly
added nearly $150m to Weight Watchers’ market capitalisation, with her stake
gaining about $12.5m in value.
