Mr Murdoch reportedly began
seeing the former model and partner of Mick Jagger last summer after they met
in Australia.
Miss Hall, 59, was born in
Texas but has lived in London for some time.
Her marriage to Rolling
Stones star Jagger took place in Bali in 1990 but was later declared invalid by
the high court.
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch
and Jerry Hall have announced their engagement.
Mr Murdoch, 84, and his
wife-to-be placed an advert in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of the
Murdoch-owned Times newspaper.
The notice read: "Mr
Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe
Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel
Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement."
The engagement between her
and Mr Murdoch was decided during the weekend.
A spokesman for the Murdoch
family told the paper: "They have loved these past months together, are
thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future."
