Members of the National
Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASSLAF) rejected and distanced themselves
from any process which led to the emergence of Sam Melaye as chairman of the
forum.
The position of NASSLAF was
contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Sikiru
Bamidele, and issued yesterday in Abuja.
The association while
accusing a section of the National Assembly management led by one C.J. Osman, a
secretary with corporate services of imposing Sam Melaye on NASSLAF as
chairman, stated that the forum elected its officials in accordance with the
provisions of the constitution.
The forum’s spokesman noted
that the April 28 elections which produced the Darlington Udeh led executive
committee was a reflection of the wishes of members.
The forum also expressed
its readiness to resist any move to constitute a parallel executive committee
by any means necessary, saying the existence of such leadership is an
illegality that must not be allowed to thrive.
