The Turks had a great
chance to take the lead in the 29th minute, but Ozan Tufan could only head
straight at goalkeeper Danijel Subasic.
Luka Modric’s sensational
strike was all Croatia needed to see off Turkey 1-0 on Sunday.
Modric then lashed in a
superb volley in the 41st minute – the goal which eventually gave his team all
three points.
In the second game of the
day, Poland beat Northern Ireland 1-0, with Arkadiusz Milik netting the only
goal.
Defending World Cup
champions Germany, opened their Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over
Ukraine.
Shkodran Mustafi and
Bastian Schweinsteiger got the goals for Joachim Low’s team.
