Zurlon Tipton, a Detroit native, appeared in 16 games over two seasons for the Colts, gaining 38 yards on 15 carries. He was released by the team in December.
He played college football at Central Michigan. Tipton's best season was 2012, when he scored 19 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 1,500 yards. Injuries limited him to only five games in 2013, his senior season.

The former NFL player died Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach.
Zurlon Tipton, 26, a former Indianapolis Colts running back, was dropping off his car at a dealership in Roseville, Michigan when he reached into a bag, firing a gun inside.
Tipton was hit in the abdomen and taken to the hospital. He was alert and able to talk during the transport, police said according to the Detroit News.
But officials confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Tipton had died.

Tipton, who had a young daughter, went to get a transmission leak on his vehicle fixed between 9 and 9:30 Tuesday morning, the car dealership's manager Mark DeMara told the Detroit News.
He had pulled up in a service bay in his Jeep.

Tipton was putting his personal belongings inside the bag when the shooting happened, authorities said.
The bag, which contained two firearms according to police, was on the passenger seat.
As Tipton reached inside the bag, one of the guns fired, shooting him in the abdomen, DeMara said.

Tipton died later of a gunshot wound, Roseville Police Deputy Chief Donald Glandon said Tuesday in a statement. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday according to the Indy Star.
The handgun, a .45-caliber semi-automatic, belonged to Tipton, who had a concealed pistol license, Police Chief James Berlin said.
Both guns were registered to Tipton according to Berlin.
No one else was injured in the accidental shooting.
Authorities are treating the shooting as an 'accidental discharge.'
CMU says the death is 'shocking and tragic'.
