Following a
tip-off, police have arrested two people in a raid at a property about 30 miles
away where they found four live tigers and a dozen empty cages.
Police in
Thailand have found what they think was the slaughterhouse and holding facility
for the country's now-infamous Tiger Temple.
The find is
the latest in the growing scandal involving the once-popular tourist attraction
where visitors were allowed to take photos of the tigers, and take them for
walks on a lead.
However, all
that changed at the end of last month when a raid on the temple revealed the
frozen remains of 40 dead tiger cubs, with 20 more preserved in jars.
More than 135
tigers were found at the temple in Kanchanaburi province in western Thailand at
the time.
The house was
in an isolated area and surrounded by tall fences and investigators believe it
was there that the tigers were killed.
A senior
police officer said a large chopping board and a variety of knives were found
in what the authorities believe was the slaughter area.
"We
believe it was used by the Tiger Temple to hold live tigers before slaughtering
them for their skins, meat and bones to be exported outside the country, or
sent to restaurants in Thailand that serve tiger meat to tour groups," he
said.
Police are
searching for the owner, he said.
