The spokesman of the police
in the state, Victor Isuku said the bombers targeted a mosque in Sulemanti ward
with strapped Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, but were detonated, killing
the two suspects during midnight Ramadan prayers.
The police in Borno State
have confirmed a foiled suicide attack targeted at worshipers at a mosque in
Maiduguri in the early hours of this morning.
Two suspected Boko Haram
suicide bombers were said to have blown themselves up near Sulemanti mosque in
Maiduguri metropolis.
A civilian Joint Task Force
member, JTF, Bukar Shehu also confirmed the incident. He said, “The people in
the mosque took to their heels, while we challenged the explosives strapped
suspects of their mission to the mosque, before the explosive exploded near the
mosque and under the tree.
“It was God that saved us
here; we would have been killed in the dawn suicide bombings.
“One of our members was
injured by the shrapnel of explosives, including a woman with a leg injury. She
has been taken to a nearby clinic for treatment this morning.”
