In a statement release
titled, “Enugu herbalist on the run over treatment of robbery suspect,” was made
available to newsmen yesterday by the state Police Public Relations Officer,
PPRO, Superintendent Ebere Amaraizu.
The manhunt has been
intensified by the Enugu State Police Command for a herbalist who allegedly
treat robbery suspect who escape with bullet wounds during a gun battle with
the police in his herbal clinic.
He revealed that the native
doctor treated the suspect in his clinic located at Orba in Udenu Local
Government Council.
The statement read,s
“Operatives of the Enugu State command of the Police have intensified manhunt
with a view to fishing out a herbalist who treats wounded armed robbery
suspects in his herbal clinic located at Orba in Udenu local Government Area of
Enugu State and its environs.
“It was gathered that the
herbalist who is said to have abandoned his herbal clinic for fear of being
nabbed had allegedly taken custody of a suspected armed robbery suspect who
gave his name as one Ambrose Okwudili Ugwu of Isiamaelu village Ohodo in
Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu state and was giving him treatment
until operatives working on information struck in his herbal clinic and met his
absence even as the suspect was promptly arrested with bullet wounds.
“It was further gathered
that the suspect alongside others had alleged blocked the Enugu/Markurdi
expressway by Echara Ohodo with heavy logs of wood and were holding motorists
hostage at about 2am on June 18, 2016 before a combined team of Special Anti-
Robbery Squad, SARS, Enugu State and military men acting on a tip off promptly
swung into action and in the ensuing exchange of gun duel, hoodlums believed to
have been touched by bullet escaped into the bush until July 1, 2016, (when,
through intelligence information) the herbal clinic was raided where one of the
suspected robbery suspect was nabbed … while receiving herbal treatment.
“The said herbalist has
taken to his heels. (The robbery) suspect is now helping the operatives in
their investigations just as manhunt for the herbalist is (being) intensified.”
