It
was reported that hoodlums allegedly attacked prominent personalities at Emir’s
palace on Sunday night during the Islamic public lecture held to conclude last
day of Ramadan.
Eye witness
said that the hoodlums scattered the programme when an invited Islamic Cleric
warned the people of the state not to blame Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and
others on the unpaid salaries of workers.
The aggrieved
hoodlums, who disguised as worshippers broken electricity bulbs, turned the
whole venue of the event to darkness before started throwing chairs and hard
objects which forced Emir and other Clerics to retreat.
The Nigeria
Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC) have deployed over
3,000 of their officers to secure Ilorin Yidi ground ahead of Wednesday Eid
–el-Fitri prayer.
Also, the
Department of Security Service(DSS),Nigerian Army, Nigerian Vigilante Group as
well as local security accredited by the Ilorin Community have sent armful
number of their officers to the praying ground to arrest anyone planning to
stone or embarrass eminent personalities today at the place of worship.
The
preparation of this year end of Ramadan with armful of security was called for
as a result of hoodlums attacked on Senate President Bukola Saraki,Emir of
Ilorin,Alhaji Sulu-Gambari and others during the last year Eid Li-Kabir
festival at the Ilorin Eid praying ground and alleged fresh attack at the
Emir’s palace over unpaid workers salaries.
While
confirmed the armful of Police Officers at the worshipping praying ground,the
Kwara State Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO)Ajayi Okasanmi in text message
to our Correspondent said 1,500 officers have been deplored to provide security
at Ilorin Yidi ground alone.
The Public
Relation Officer(PRO) of NSCDC, Bilesanmi Henry in a telephone interview with
our Correspondent said 1,500 of it Officers have been positioned at strategic
areas in Ilorin Yidi ground while 1,000 were deployed across the state.
While
debunking the alleged rumour that Emir of Ilorin,Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari
and others were attacked, National Secretary of the Shehu Alimi Foundation for
Peace and Development,Abdulazeez Arowona denied the alleged attacked.
Arowona who
stated this on behalf of the monarch in a statement issued on Monday and
Tuesday condemned the reported rumour.
“It was
actually a mere obstruction of the electrical appliances which supplies power
to the bulbs hanged round the venue of the event which made the entire stage to
become dark.
“People in
attendance therefore sees no reason(s) staying behind since it was almost time
for the midnight meal (Sahur) around 2am. They therefore moved peacefully to
their respective home without fracas.
During the
slight occurrence which disrupted the arrangement, nobody was injured.
