The local government
chairman spoke from her hospital bed in Asaba, the council boss who was recently
recalled from suspension by the state House of Assembly said 22 pellets were
recovered from the vehicle.
Alarmed by the extend of
injury suffered by the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta
State, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwurah, when one of her security aides opened fire on
her, physicians have advised her to go on enough bed rest.
She narrowly missed death
by the whiskers Sunday June 12th 2016 after a thanksgiving service in Asaba
when the policeman at the front seat turned and shot at her at close range
inside the car.
The medical doctors at the
hospital where she is admitted were said to have advised her not to rush out of
the hospital but to have enough rest owing to the nature of injury she
sustained.
“My orderly just opened the door for me to
enter the vehicle while the policeman sitting at the front seat turned and face
me with his gun.
“The next thing I saw was
fire all over me, as he shot at me consistently. I was lucky the bullet did not
open my stomach. I was hit in other parts. It was God who saved my life,” she
disclosed.
According to the chairman,
when the suspect was apprehended by other security details and sympathizers, he
confessed hearing strange voices to shoot as he was under some spiritual
influence.
An eye witness told
Saturday Independent that only God knows how the Chairman survived the attack,
insisting that the survival was not ordinary while he attributes it to
supernatural power while another close relative maintained that God saved her
live because she is innocent.
However, they both
attributed the attack to politics, wondering why a security man who is not
insane could shoot at his boss in such short range just as he stated that the
excuse of spiritual influence or accidental discharge are just to buy time.
‘’Some people want her out
of the seat dead or alive. They tried impeachment but it turned out to be
suspension. They thought the three months suspension would not end but were not
comfortable with the thanksgiving. In fact they tried God and He has shown to
them He is able,’’ She stated.
The Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu who confirmed the story on Friday said “it was an
accidental discharge,” adding that the suspect identified as David has been
arrested.
