N-Delta group Critics Of Buhari Clashes With Northern Youths

Northern youths under the auspices of Northern Youth Leaders Assembly have come under fire from the Niger Delta Security Watch Organization (NSWO) for threatening not to tolerate any further attack on the image of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Niger Delta Security Watch Organization (NSWO) says Buhari cannot be free from criticism because he is the president of Nigeria.

Recall that a northern youth group had said it will no longer tolerate any insults to the family and members of the president cabinet, threatening to mobilize “resources to take on anyone who think they can use their image as a chess pawn in the game playing out in the media”.

But NSWO in reaction to the threats by the northern youths said it was irrational for the youths to threaten not to tolerate any further attack on Buhari’s image because he is the president of Nigeria and not the president of the north.

The group in a statement by its president, Dickson Bekederemo, said as president of Nigeria, Buhari cannot be free from criticism.

It said: “From their utterances, it appears they have forgotten that President Buhari is the President of Nigeria and not the president of Northern Nigeria, and so cannot be free from criticism. May we remind them that when President Jonathan was on the seat of power, he was called all sorts of names, ranging from clueless, incompetent and drunken fisherman.

“The pace has been set. President Buhari’s case will also not be different, as Nigerians from all walks of life have the right to criticize him.”

Meanwhile, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has asked the federal government to be considerate of the citizens and do away with anti-people policies.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Abuja on Monday, August 8, 2016, Sultan Abubakar advised the government that to work with the people adding that where a policy is seen to be anti-people, it must be immediately reviewed.

The Sun reports him as saying policies should be in the interest of the people, noting that if policies do not work, there was nothing wrong in reviewing them.

The town hall meeting and policy dialogue was organised by the Alumni Association of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (AANI) in collaboration with the ministry of Information and National Orientation.
