(IPOB) Declared International Day Protest “Release Kanu”

In October last year, Mr Kanu was detained by security agents after visiting Nigeria from the UK where he runs a pirate radio station called Radio Biafra.
He has since been charged with treason and his incarceration has sparked a wave of protests and fuelled calls for the recreation of the defunct Republic of Biafra.
Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) have declared September 23 as their international day of protest during which they plan to hold marches demonstrating against the continued detention of their leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Ipob spokesman Emma Powerful said the worldwide protests that will hold later this week will take place in all the countries across the globe except in Biafraland and Nigeria. He added that in Nigeria, church services will be held in place of protests.

Mr Powerful said: “Every Ipob member and other Biafrans living in Nigeria and Biafraland will stay in their homes on that day. We also ask that all markets, schools, banks, transport companies and manufacturing companies close on that day in solidarity with the overall objectives of the Biafra restoration process irrespective of your persuasion or affiliation.

"Again, we call on Okada riders, keke drivers, bus drivers, luxurious bus owners and drivers, the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the National Association of Transport Owners to withdraw their vehicles from the road on that day in solidarity with Ipob worldwide for the release our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and for the total liberation of Biafra people. We also advise every Biafran to switch off their communication devices especially mobile phones on that day from 8am in the morning to 4pm in the evening in solidarity."

He added that this will let the world, including communication companies, know that Biafrans are serious about the release of their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the restoration of the ancient and sacred sovereignty of God’s nation Biafra.  According to Mr Powerful, Ipob has decided that only Biafraland and Nigeria are exempt from street protests on this occasion however any country where there are Ipob family units that does not participate in this global event will be shut down immediately.
