The commission at its
plenary meeting on Thursday in Abuja, also rejected the recommendation of the
Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for special promotion of 12 officers.
The Police Service
Commission has dismissed six senior officers for impersonation, forgery,
insubordination, negligence and disobedience to lawful order.
Those dismissed are in the
ranks of Superintendents of Police, Assistant
Superintendents and a Chief Superintendent of Police.
These were part of the
decisions taken by the PSC on 55 disciplinary cases brought before it, a
statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC,
Ikechukwu Ani, stated.
It explained that the
commission rejected the recommendation for special promotion of one Deputy
Superintendent of Police and one Inspector and also returned the recommendation
for the appointment of a Deputy Commissioner of Police on an acting capacity
for proper presentation.
“It also withheld the special
promotion of nine other senior police officers for failure of the police to
provide convincing reasons for such promotions,” the statement added.
The PSC however promoted
135 officers, including four Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of
Commissioners.
The new CPs are, Posi
Ajunwa, Akinsanmi Ayo, Kenneth Ebrimson and Akpoebi Egbuson.
The commission also
elevated 17 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners and 78
CSPs to Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The two-day meeting,
presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector-General of Police,
also endorsed the promotions of one SP to CSP; 12 DSPs to SPs and one ASP to
DSP.
