Colonel Sani
Usman, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, issued a statement on Saturday
revealing that 13 officers had been wounded following the attack in Borno
State, leading to some soldiers going missing soon thereafter.
The Nigerian
Army is reportedly holding two top-ranking officials following their alleged
sabotage of the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East.
According to
Punch, the arrest follow a painstaking investigation into the conduct of
personnel following an attack by Boko Haram on troops in Gashigar on October
22.
A military
source disclosed on Wednesday that investigations into the matter brought about
the discovery of two cases against the arrested suspects, who had allegedly
leaked information to insurgents, while raising funds to finance Boko Haram
activities through cattle rustling.
"The
suspicion was that they have links with some civilians and the links were
traced. They are giving them vital information concerning the movement of
soldiers.
"How
come that the Borno State Governor and other officials have not been attacked,
yet they ambushed the Chief of Army Staff. They have not attacked civilians but
they attacked the COAS," the source revealed.
The Acting
Army spokesperson has since confirmed that investigations into the matter are
currently underway, while disclosing that no additional information will be
supplied due to a rescue operation being planned in the area, Nigerian Bulletin
reports.
