The clash between the rival
cultists started Monday night in Gaa-Akanbi area of the metropolis, when
suspected rival cult members murdered a boy in his 20s.
In what was seen as a
reprisal attack, it was gathered that the violence spread to Ipata Market and
Kankatu areas of Ilorin on Tuesday, where two persons were killed by suspected
cultists.
No fewer than four persons
were feared killed after a clash between rival cult members in Ilorin, the
Kwara State capital.
The two incidents were said
to have happened between 4p.m. and 9p.m., as the corpse of an 18-year-old boy,
killed at Kankatu area of the town, was said to have been dumped beside Amule
bridge.
The boy hailed from Osoogun
compound of the metropolis. Vanguard checks revealed that men of the state
police evacuated the corpse and deposited same at an undisclosed hospital
morgue in the town. In continuation of the attacks, another person in his 30s
was, yesterday, allegedly hacked to death by the rampaging cult members in
Odoota area of the metropolis. The suspected cultists were said to have struck
at 11am.
According to the source,
the deceased was preparing to go to work when the rival cult group attacked
him. Contacted, spokesperson of the state Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi,
confirmed the incident at Gaa-Akanbi, adding that he was yet to get information
regarding the other incidents in the metropolis. He, however, promised to call
the DPOs of the areas in question for confirmation, adding “I can only confirm
to you that the Gaa-Akanbi incident was as a result of rival cult clashes.”
