Kemi Saheed, a middle-aged
woman, has appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating
up a man within the premises of the Ikorodu Judicial Division, the News Agency
of Nigeria reports.
The accused, whose address
and profession were not stated, was docked on Tuesday on a three-count charge
of assault, breach of peace and conspiracy before Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju.
Saheed however pleaded not
guilty of the offences levelled against her.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kemi
Adeniran, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 9
with one other person still at large.
She said the offences were
committed at about 9.40 a.m. within the premises of the judicial division where
two High courts and four Magistrates’ Courts are domiciled.
She said, “The accused and
her accomplice beat up one Afolabi Ogunjobi and disrupted activities at the
courts.
“Her male accomplice
escaped arrest.
“They even tore Ogunjobi’s
clothes as they beat him up to the dismay of the people around and caused
breach of the peace in the compound.”
The prosecutor said the
offences contravened Sections 166(D), 170 and 344 of the Criminal Law of Lagos
States 2011.
The Magistrate granted the
accused N50,000 bail with one surety, who must be gainfully employed.
Oshodi-Makanju said the
surety must show evidence of tax payments to Lagos state government and
adjourned the case till December 22 for mention.
