Driver Beatup Co-tenant Almost Go Blind

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, a resident of Lagos street in Agege is facing trial for assault and breach of peace.
A 40-year-old driver identified as Ikechukwu Offor has found himself in a terrible mess following the fight he had with his co-tenant in their area. The driver appeared before a magistrate court in Ikeja after he got involved in a fight with his neighbour and damaged his eyes in the process.

Inspector Clement Okuoimose said the accused committed the offence on February 23 where he beat up Mr Idowu Onajobi, his co-tenant up to the point where his eyes were damaged.

Prior to this, Okuoimose revealed that the complainant had been saddled with the responsibility of locking the gate by 11:00pm and keeping the key. He was nominated by the co-tenants in the building. The complainant was nominated by his co-tenants to be locking their gate at 11.00 p.m. as a result of wave of robbery in the area. “The accused, who came home late after the gate was locked, started knocking the gate loudly, threatening to destroy it if the gate was not opened for him.

“When the complainant finally opened the gate, the accused descended on him for the delay. “He punched him several times in the eyes and damaged the eyes,” he stated. According to the law, the offence committed by the driver contravened sections 166 and 171 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015. The complainant is said to be at the hospital where he is receiving treatment as he cannot see properly.


NAN reports that Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault. The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.
