A report by
Sahara Reporters claims that EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu might have been
a victim of power play backed by acts of corruption.
In a tweet on
Friday, March 17, the US-based online newspaper claimed that Senators Dino
Melaye and Phillip Aduda coordinated the collection and sharing of bribes among
senators to frustrate Magu's confirmation.
Melaye represents Kogi west
senatorial district and Aduda is the senator representing the Federal Capital
Territory and the Senate minority leader.
It is not clear how Sahara
Reporters got the information, and nobody can independently verify the report.
Senator Melaye and the
medium have been having a running battle for a while, with the senator said that
the US-based online newspaper is obsessed with him.
The Senate had rejected
Magu's nomination by the president a second time through a voice vote, citing a
report by the Department of State Security (DSS), which indicted the EFCC boss.
Meanwhile, human rights
lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has chided the Nigerian Senate for rejecting Magu for
the second time.
According to Falana, the
red chamber by its action, ridiculed the office of President Buhari.
In a related
development, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi
Adesina has said President Buhari would duly respond to Magu's rejection when
the Senate sends him an official letter.
