

Over 150
heavily armed security personnel - mostly from Abuja - will be deployed to
Niger state as the former governor's trial begins on Tuesday, April 25.
The Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Tuesday, April 25, arraign a
former governor of Niger state Babangida Aliyu. Aliyu will be arraigned before
the Niger state High Court served over corrupt allegation against him while he
was a two-term governor in the state.
Thisday
reports that the former governor's trial will begin on Tuesday amidst fear and
tension among residents of Minna, Niger state capital.
some of the
civil servants in the state filled the court premises in a bid to embarrass the
former governor over the backlog of payment of salaries owed to them.
The governor
during his tenure failed to pay 7.5% increase in the salaries of the civil
servants before leaving office. Sources said some of those engaged in the plan
to harass the former governor were arrested by operatives of the Department of
State Services at the Court.
