To make an emphatic statement, the non-governmental organization wrote to the Department of State Security Services, demanding that investigations be carried out. According to the IVFPAD, Kuku allegedly embezzled about N97bllion.
The Ijaw Voice for Peace and Development (IVFPAD) has accused former special adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Kingsley Kuku, of embezzlement. IVFPAD claims that there is little or no headway in the case against Kuku, because he has some strong holds in the antigraft agencies within the country.
Recall that the DSS noted a few days ago, that a federal government agency is protecting Kingsley Kuku from prosecution.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) might be the agency the DSS was referring to. The EFCC has been probing Kuku for a while. Although the former presidential aide has been in the United States since 2015. According to the DSS, the agency aiding Kuku claims to be probing him but is in fact doing the opposite.
While all accusing fingers tend to be pointing towards the EFCC, the agency has denied reports that some of its officials were shielding Kingsley Kuku.
While all accusing fingers tend to be pointing towards the EFCC, the agency has denied reports that some of its officials were shielding Kingsley Kuku. The anti-corruption agency said in a statement on Tuesday, May 2 that the reports of Kuku, who served as Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger-Delta Affairs, being held back from prosecution were not true. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the report was an unverified story provided by an unnamed source in the State Security Service. However, the Ijaw Voice for Peace and Development, still holds that the anti-graft body is shielding Kuku from facing the music of justice.
One of the major highpoints which the IVFPAD said it longed to share, was the fact that the EFCC is using a staged-drama with the office of the AGF, as cover to say it is on the trails of Kingsley Kuku. According to the group, the EFCC in an attempt to to fool Nigerians, claim to have written the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and minister of justice. The group says the EFCC claims to be seeking cooperation of the office, as to extradite Kuku, but what is not told to Nigerians, is that "Kingsley Kuku's wife, one Chiaka Nnamani is a top official at the AGF's office".
IVFPAD claims that Kuku's wife has been bribing and planting several of her colleagues, as to frustrate the efforts of bringing her husband to book.
In conclusion, the Ijaw Voice for Peace and Development says the DSS must embark on independent investigation, if they are to get to the root of the Kingsley Kuku case.
Kingsley Kuku, has claimed he is a victim of the rivalry between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The EFCC invited him several times for questioning over alleged financial fraud, but he failed to honour the invitations. The anti-graft agency has not taken any further action, because of a court restraining order. However, the DSS allegedly accused the EFCC of shielding the former presidential aide, whom they wanted for interrogation. The DSS claimed Kuku was behind some of the militant activities in the Niger Delta.
