The suspects, Abdulrashed
Aminu, 25, of Lupa and Ismaila Mohammed, 27 of Makera in Paikoro Council were
trailed and arrested by Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Squad
attached to the Abuja – Minna road, the Public Relations Officer, Babaola
Adewole, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.
Niger State Police Command
said it had arrested two suspected ritualists terrorising Bakajeba community in
Paikoro Local Government Area of the state for beheading a 13-year-old boy.
Adewole said that the
suspects were arrested for killing and beheading one 13-year-old Hassan
Abubakar for ritual purposes.
It was learnt that one of
the accomplices, identified as Ibrahim, is still at large and the operatives
have intensified effort to get him apprehended.
Our correspondent also
gathered that the father of the victim, Abubakar Shuaib, disclosed that his son
was last seen on Saturday 26th August 2017 when he took a kettle water from the
house to give to an unknown person waiting outside the house.
The spokesman said that the
operatives recovered from the suspects two knives with which they beheaded
their victim.
According to him, the
corpse of the victim has been released to his family for burial.
The command spokesman said,
“Enough is enough for ritualists in the state. We will continue to apprehend
them till they change to better people in the society. ”
“We are on top of the
situation and we are equal to the task. Lives of the citizens must be protected
by police.
“Niger State is one of the
most peaceful states in the country and we will resist any attempt by bad
people to take over the affairs of the state. It will not happen; our men are
intact, ready for any eventualities.”
He stated that
investigation into the incident was on going, adding that the suspects would be
arraigned in court after investigation.
