Investigation by our correspondent revealed that one Chinedu Iromuanya, of the Public Administration Department, had attempted suicide by drinking an insecticide known as ‘sniper’.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said it would investigate an attempted suicide by an Ordinary Diploma II student of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.
The student was said to have made the suicide attempt on October 2, 2017 because of the alleged refusal of the school management to clear him after failing some courses.
A nurse, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said Iromuanha, an indigene of Abia State, was on Tuesday discharged from the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, where he was rushed to for treatment.
Further findings, however, indicated that the management of the polytechnic had yet to report the case to the police.

When contacted, the rector of the institution, Dr. Silas Gyar, declined comment.

But the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, told Northern City News that the command was not aware of the case.
He said, “I am just hearing this now and I do not think the management of the institution has reported the case to the police.

“I would confirm from our officers in charge of the area where the incident happened to unravel the reason for the attempted suicide.”
The police image-maker admonished all the students and the management of the institution to report any suspicious person, movement or activities to the law enforcement agencies for prompt action.
He, however, called on all the students to be law-abiding and not to take the law into their own hands as the police would do everything possible to protect lives and property in and around the school.
