The Every
Little Step singer had tried to stifle the film from airing in arguing that the
movie defames him in making him look like a poor father and violent husband (to
late ex Whitney Houston), but the court said that his conclusions were
'speculative,' as he hasn't watched the movie or reviewed the script.
A federal
judge in Manhattan has nixed the 48-year-old singer's request in a $2 million
lawsuit to block Bobbi Kristina - a TV One biopic about his late daughter Bobbi
Kristina Brown - from airing Sunday, the New York Post reported Thursday.
Judge
Analisa Torres said that 'whether Bobby Brown was a bad father is a matter of
opinion,' according to the paper.
She also
cited passages Brown wrote in his 2016 autobiography Every Little Step: My Story
in which the New Edition alum admitted to physically abusing Houston.
'I turned
around to her, drew back my hand, and smacked her across the face,' he wrote of
an incident with the late I Will Always Love You singer.
'We are pleased
with the court’s ruling,' TV One said in a statement, 'and look forward to
sharing this poignant look at the life of Bobbi Kristina Brown.'
While the
film will air Sunday, the suit against the network will continue next month,
with a conference slated to be held November 13, the paper reported.
The My
Prerogative artist is joined in his lawsuit by the estate of his late daughter,
who died July 26, 2015, nearly six months after she was found unconscious in a
bathtub in her house in Alpharetta, Georgia.
TV One said
in a statement announcing the movie, 'Bobbi Kristina's high-profile life - and
untimely death - may have been shrouded in mystery, but this film will reveal
her humor, quirks, deepest fears and longings. This film explores her fight to
be seen, heard, loved and to survive.'
Joy Rovaris
will play the titular character, with Demetria McKinney in the role of Whitney
Houston and Hassan Johnson playing Bobby Brown. Other performers in the cast
include Nadji Jeter, Vivica A. Fox and Ricco Ross. Bobbi Kristina airs Sunday
at 7/6c on TV One.
