Teenagers Arrested For Stealing Transformer Cable

The prosecutor, Afeez  Ogunwale, also told the court that one Michael, who was at large, conspired with the accused to steal the cables valued at N391,600 at Oluseke Village. 
The police in Osun State have arraigned a teenager, Shakiru Adigun, and 25-year-old Hammed Agbaakin before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikire for allegedly stealing transformer cables belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused, who were arraigned on three counts, committed the offence on or before September 1, 2017, at about 10am, adding that the offence was punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The charges read, “That you, Hammed Mukaila, Shakiru Adigun and one Michael, now at large, on or before September 1,  2017, at about 10am, at Oluseke village, via Ikire, did conspire together to commit felony to wit; stealing, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

“That two of you and one Michael, now at large, on or before September 1, 2017, at about 10am, at the aforementioned place did steal one 20 metres IBEDC transformer cable valued at N110,000; 30metres  transformer cable valued at N270,000; 150 metres transformer cable valued at N7,200; and one 70 metres transformer cable valued at N4,400, totalling N391,600, property of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Ikire Station, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 516 (9) of the Criminal Code,  Cap30, Vol II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

“That you, Hammed Mukaila, Shakira and one Michael, now at large on the same date, time and place did wilfully damaged one IBEDC electric system, which endangered the lives of the people in the neighbourhood, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 451 (b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, vol II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The two accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges, while their counsel, J.A. Adeboye, prayed the court to grant them bail in liberal terms.
The magistrate, Mrs. A.K Oyewale,   admitted the duo to bail in the sum of N100,000 each. 
She adjourned the case till November 20, 2017.
