Jose Mourinho has been
speaking to the press about the man of the moment – Mo Salah, who he notes is
only getting better and better this season.
He also touched on why the
player left Chelsea, and noted that it was a decision from the club and nothing
to do with him in terms of blame.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil,
and made it clear how much he rates Salah, noting that he thinks the player is
in the form of his life. He said: “I think everything has surprised even him.
It has been fantastic,” the Manchester United boss said of Salah’s breakout
season.
“But he is a great player
that has reached the peak of maturity, he has already lived several other
experiences and now has fitted perfectly into the style of play of the team, of
the coach and of the club as well. So it doesn’t surprise me that much.
“People say that I was the
one that sold Salah and it is the opposite.
“I bought Salah.
“It is the opposite. I was
the one that bought Salah. I was the one that told Chelsea to buy Salah. It was
with me in charge that Salah came to Chelsea. But he came as a young kid,
physically he was not ready, mentally he was not ready, socially and culturally
he was lost and everything was tough for him.
“We decided to put him on
loan and he asked for that as well. He wanted to play more minutes, to mature,
he wanted to go and we sent him on loan to Fiorentina, and at Fiorentina he
started to mature.
“Chelsea decided to sell
him, OK?”
United
Mourinho is of course now
at United, and it’s going to be a vital summer for him, with the manager
reportedly willing to sell key players who he feels do not meet the standard he
requires.
Paul Pogba was thought to
be on the chopping block, though has said that the pair have been avoiding
criticising each other in the media, with the player noting that his
relationship with Mourinho is fine – though refusing to say if he would be at
the club come next season.
Anthony Martial is another
player who Mourinho has been frustrated with, and fans are worried the
Frenchman will be sold and it will come back to haunt the club after Mourinho
leaves, which looking at De Bruyne and Salah, may well be the case.
