Reports have today emerged
that Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Douglas Costa from German Champions
Bayern Munich should Juventus fail to make Costa’s loan permanent this summer.
Skilful winger
Costa is a very fast
skilful winger who has proven for many seasons now he can be a handful for any
defence in Europe.
He signed for Bayern Munich
in 2015 from Shakhtar for £27 million and he would go on to score 14 and assist
27 in 77 games for the German giants.
Costa would then spend all
of last season on loan in the Serie A with Juventus. The Italian Champions do
have the option to make Costa’s loan permanent. However, they have yet to do so
and Manchester United are ready to pounce if Juventus do not do so.
While on loan at Juventus
Costa was able to score six and assist 14 in 47 games throughout the 2017/18
season.

Martial’s replacement
Furthermore, Manchester
United could well be looking to sign Costa as a replacement for Anthony
Martial.
Martial was already
somewhat unhappy at Manchester United after he spent much of the 2017/18 season
being used as a substitute.
He made 30 Premier League
appearances scoring nine and assisting five. But despite the very respectable
goalscoring record for a sub, Martial was unable to force his way to a regular
starting place at United.
Martial’s misery will have
been added to further when Didier Deschamps named his 2018 23-man World Cup
Squad and Martial was not in it.
Being left out of a World
Cup squad will be extremely frustrating for someone like Martial who knows it
is very likely that if he was starting more often, he probably would have gone
to Russia.
This has led to speculation
that Martial is on his way to Stamford Bridge this summer and as result, Costa
could well be United’s replacement for the Frenchman.
