Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq
has stated that it is an honour to be compared with Super Eagles great Nwankwo
Kanu.
The 21-year-old Nigerian
forward recently signed for Scottish Premiership side Rangers on a loan deal
from AS Roma.
Sadiq who will be under the
tutelage of Steven Gerrard is hoping to be an instant hit with the Scottish
side.
In a report with the
Rangers website, Sadiq talked about his style of play and also the similarities
in his game and Kanu.
He said, “I don’t like to
say anything about myself but I am a hardworking player who always wants to
help the team.
“I am just myself, even
though in Nigeria I am compared to the legend Kanu and Emmanuel Adebayor. It is
an honour when someone talks about Adebayor or Kanu next to me."
Sadiq who is yet to feature
for the Super Eagles revealed that football is more than a game to him which is
why he works hard on the field of play.
He said, “I love playing
football, for me, it is more than a game. I hope I can score goals here and to
help the team as well.
“In football, you never
know what is going to happen but hard work pays and with the work I am going to
do here I think I will be successful.”
Sadiq will hope to have a
successful spell in Scotland just as he did in the Eredivisie with NAC Breda
last season and get a call-up for the Super Eagles African Cup of Nations
(AFCON) qualifiers.
