2 Killed In Bank Robbery In Ekiti

Police have confirmed that two persons were killed by robbers who raided a new generation bank in Igede Ekiti late on Wednesda, September 19, 2018.
The police also confirmed on Thursday, September 20, 2018, that some other people sustained injuries and reported that they have beefed up security in and around all the banks in Ekiti State.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the victims included an official of the bank and a private security guard also at the bank.

Caleb Ikechukwu, the police public relations officer, PPRO, said police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers.

Ikechukwu, however, did not confirm if the robbers made away with any cash from the bank but that there was an exchange of gunshots with the robbers.

He said that counter attack forced the robbers to flee the scene, upon realising that the police were closing in on them.

The robbers, police said, drove into the bush and escaped into the thick forest which had already been surrounded by the police while officers were combing the bush in search of the robbers.

“As we speak, our Criminal Investigation Bureau, CIB, and State Intelligence Investigation Department, SIID, have drafted their men for intelligence gathering, while mobile policemen are on road and other critical areas,” he said.

Ikechukwu, however, urged members of the public to go about their normal businesses, assuring that the police are on top of the situation.
